You could smell the aroma of perfected recipes stewing in the air as you entered Kelly’s Restaurant, on the Outer Banks, for the inaugural Stewz, Soupz, & Sweetz. “Bustin’ The Blues” Ultimate Culinary Challenge was the place to be on Sunday, January 31st. With snow on the ground and the cold nipping at your nose, it was the perfect day for this event. The proceeds for everyone’s hard work, talent, and dedication went to the Outer Banks Community Foundation. The variety of dishes proved to be exquisite as everyone sampled the tasteful selections. It was a mouth-watering, flavor fest and we are all looking forward to it again next year. Some of the delicious choices included Venison Italian Stew, which came in 1st Place, Tortilla Soup with Smoked Chicken and Chorizo, Clam Chowder, and the Brunswick Stew which came in 2nd Place. The Grand Champion was prepared by the Parker Family with tender loving care. The dish was named, “Green Chili Chicken Soup”! It was remarkable! The desserts were delectable and delicious! Cream Cheese Danish came in 1st Place and the Grand Champion was the Toffee. There was a layout of unforgettable flavors for all to enjoy. There was Cheese Cake, with toppings or without, Chocolate cake, Key Lime Cheese Cake, and more! The variety of participants was quite a surprise! There was a Chef from The Blue Point Restaurant, an Outer Banks restaurant known for their upscale dining; the Champion works at the Outer Banks Board of Real Estate. It was a great turn out and a lot of fun for everyone. Through all of the struggles that we experience in our lives, it is a comfort to see families, friends, and neighbors come together to celebrate life and share their ideas over some good ol’ fashioned food for the soul! Sun Realty Congratulates Agent for Certification Kill Devil Hills — Kim Stembridge with Sun Realty has earned the nationally recognized Short Sales and Foreclosure Resource certification. The National Association of REALTORS® offers the SFR certification to REALTORS® who want to help both buyers and sellers navigate these complicated transactions, as demand for professional expertise with distressed sales grows. According to a recent NAR survey, nearly one-third of all existing homes sold recently were either short sales or foreclosures. For many real estate professionals, short sales and foreclosures are the new “traditional” transaction. Stembridges’ SFR certification enables her to better assist sellers, maneuver the complexities of short sales, as well as help buyers pursue short sale and foreclosure opportunities. The certification program includes training on how to qualify sellers for short sales, negotiate with lenders, protect buyers and limit risk. The program also provides resources to help REALTORS® stay current on national and state-specific information as the market for these distressed properties evolves. To contact Kim Stembridge, she can be reached at (252) 441-8011 ext.498 or KimStembridge@SunRealtyNC.com. I volunteered to be a “bell ringer” representing my company over the holidays. I decided to bring my 11 year old daughter, Windy, along with me. I have volunteered in the past for the United Way, The Cancer Walk and have always taken my granddaughters. When we arrived at the Harris Teeter in Kill Devil Hills we realized that there was no BELL at this location! So we decided to sing! The public really enjoyed it and we had many contributions in the 2 hours we were there. We can’t wait to be “bell ringers” next year! Ringing the bell for the Salvation Army this holiday season is a chance to really reflect about our community. What I have come away with from the bell-ringing experience is that in difficult times, people really come through, whether it is a few coins, a dollar or giving of one's time. I never imagined I'd see as much sincere kindness as I've been shown. After talking with another Sun Realty employee about her experience Jackie told me a that it was a “wonderful experience and she was impressed with the contributions of people, She had one women put a wad of twenties into the red bucket, She had a 10 year old boy who gave is own Christmas Money into the bucket instead of getting something for himself”! While I was there I had someone offer me his coat since it was 34 degrees while I was there, someone gave me a cup of Hot Chocolate, and another person after donating money came out with a gift card for me to go have lunch after my time was up. To see the parents so excited let their young kids deposit money and explain that it goes to those who aren't as fortunate as their family. I allowed the kids to ring the bell and say Merry Christmas it was priceless! I found that people sometimes walk away and then come back after packing their groceries in their cars.
So many people thanked ME for giving my time. Shoppers wait patiently while someone in front of them rummages through several pockets to find change. I drove home enriched by both the generosity and the kindness shown to me. I love living and working on the Outer Banks of NC.
