Stephanie Walker of Sun Realty, has been elected as the 2011 President of the North Carolina Association of REALTORS®  (NCAR). No one from the Outer Banks has ever been President of the NCAR Stephanie has been a North Carolina Broker since 1987.

Stephanie has received the Outer Banks Association of REALTORS®’ REALTOR® of the Year award, The North Carolina Association of REALTORS®  Regional Service Award and the North Carolina Association of REALTORS®  President’s Award. She is currently serving as chair on the National Association of REALTORS®  Professional Standards Forum, and serves on the NAR Professional Standards Committee and the Interpretations and Procedures Sub-Committee.  She recently finished service on a NAR Presidential Advisory Group focusing on increasing REALTOR® professionalism.

On the state level, Walker has chaired the Bylaws Committee and the Professional Standards Committee for the North Carolina Association of REALTORS®.  She has served on the Strategic Planning Committee for 7 Presidents and has served on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Real Estate Education Foundation.

On the local level, Walker was the 2002 President of the Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® and has chaired the Member Services Committee, Bylaws Committee, Finance Committee, Professional Standards Committee, Community Services Committee, Scholarship Committee and the Executive Officer Recruitment Committee.  

She also currently serves on the board for the Dare County Department of Social Services.

Stephanie and her husband, Bill, reside in Colington Harbour and she enjoys gardening, boating fishing and playing with her grandson, Jackson.

Good News, it has been reported that the recession is OVER! As good as it is to hear, it has been hard times here in Dare County for a while and it will take some time to recover. I have been able to help three property owners recently avoid foreclosure by offering their home as a Short Sale. That means, we located a buyer, negotiated with the Mortgage Lender, and Closed the sale for less than what was owed on the mortgages. This process is not quick or easy and it is not a sure bet. It takes intensive work and communication between the parties and it still has its drawbacks. There are negative consequences to this type of transaction, but is somewhat less severe and easier to overcome than a foreclosure.

The important thing is that you be aware of all of your options if you are no longer able to afford your mortgage payments. The most gratifying part of my job and is using my skills and knowledge I have gained as a REALTOR to help others.
